Iron man distance in a week

So this is where it all begins. My first challenge is to complete an iron man distance over the course of a week. This means I need to swim 2.4 miles, cycle 115 miles and run 26.2 miles over the course of 7 days. The plan is to break it in to “manageable” chunks…I will swim 1.2 miles on each of Saturday and Sunday morning, and cycle 50 miles on each of those afternoons. Monday will then be a “rest day with a  15 mile bike ride to do and a short run to get the legs going. Sound like fun. I have ordered a new bike but its not ready yet so I’ll be cycling on my upright hybrid. Wish me luck!

Bring. It. On.

mountain picShortly I will be turning 39. With that I will begin my 40th year of life. I don’t want to look at my 40th year with dread, regret, feelings of loss of youth or longing for time that’s gone. Instead I want to look at my 40th year straight in the eye, and shout “BRING IT ON!!”. I am going to really enjoy this year. My plan is to undertake 40 challenges in my 40th year. They will be a huge variety of challenges, from physically demanding to mentally challenging; from altruistic to selfish; from silliness to things I probably should have done a long time ago.

The first challenge is to record many of the challenges in this blog! First shout out goes to Caitlin Adams for telling me I need to look up wordpress, and telling me it would be easy. And is has been. So far.

So here is the first entry on my first ever blog, and with it the first of 40 challenges before 40.
